(Surname: MOSES - sometimes listed as MOSSES). I
don't know a lot about my MOSES ancestors, however, I will share what little I have; also see my Rootsweb websites==links listed below== with my MOSES family data on it. Okay,here goes: most of my MOSES family is reputed to have lived in upstate NC (areas such as Glen Alpine, NC, Burke County, Lincoln County
and Gaston County, NC); upstate SC (areas such as York, Clover, Laurens, Rock Hill); Tennessee, though I have no idea what part. At present, I have only
been able to find my grandfather (C. Gaither MOSES, a/k/a Colonel Gaither MOSES, Gaither A. MOSES and G. A. MOSES), my paternal great grandparents'names: King David MOSES (a/k/a known as Dave MOSES) and Mary Frances HELMS MOSES (a/k/a Frances HELMS MOSES). Frances' maiden name has also been spelled "HELLAMS". It is my great grandparents' names that I have seen listed as MOSSES (Dave and Frances Helms MOSSES).
Below are some names and dates if it will help! I thank anyone kindly if they have ANYTHING that might help me. I truly would like to find some more
information for my father (who has recently had surgery for throat cancer).
Quite a long time ago, I had been searching for the marriage records for my great grandparents Dave MOSES and Frances HELMS (or HELLAMS); their full names are believed to be King David MOSES and Mary Frances HELMS MOSES.
Someone was kind enough to reply and had found a notation/or record of Dave and Frances MOSES marrying in Burke County on January 17, 1877. Unfortunately, I had a computer crash, lost everything and don't remember who the kind person was.
I have been to Register of Deeds and Library in Burke County, NC and have still not found any "solid" documentation on this marriage. I am trying so
hard to find anything on Dave and Frances MOSES (also has been written as MOSSES in some places). I am up against a brick wall not knowing where to look.
Dave and Frances also had some children (my grandfather, Gaither was born in Burke County; I don't know if the other children were born in Burke County or
not) and the names follow:
Lola MOSES (believed to have married a BABB or BALB and to have owned a farm in upstate SC; she is buried in Laurens County, SC)
Ruth MOSES (who married a BELL and she is buried in
Laurens County, SC also)
Colonel Gaither MOSES (a/k/a Gaither A. MOSES -or- G. A. MOSES and who is buried in Laurens County, SC)
Joseph MOSES (believed to have lived in Gastonia, NC and went by "Joe"
Moice J. MOSSES - parents listed on death certificate as Dave and Frances HELMS MOSSES (died in Gaston County in 1917 and is buried in Bessemer City, NC -somewhere - we don't what cemetary) NOTICE the name variation, however, her death certificate lists Dave and Frances HELMS MOSSES as her parents.
All of the above MOSES are on my Grandfather, Gaither MOSES' side of the family.
There are also MOSES (a different set of MOSES) on my Grandmother Mary's side of the family:
Thomas (Tom) MOSES (Burke County, NC)
A story is told about Tom calling him the "meanest man in Burke County" ...
William (Will) MOSES (Lincoln County, NC)
Charles (Charlie) MOSES

Emma Delia MOSES
Julia ("Jewel") MOSES
Henry Patrick MOSES
(was known for woodworking)
Quite a few of our MOSES family were also known for their "chair-making" ... often the leather lattice weaving of chair bottoms.
All of the above MOSES on my grandmother's side of the family were in the Lincolnton (Lincoln County), North Carolina area back in the early 1900's.
